Knowing what to practise can be overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be

There are so many things to learn on the guitar! You've probably noticed that as you've searched online for different things to learn. Scales, chords, songs, solos, riffs, theory, and that's just scratching the surface. It can feel overwhelming.

Most guitarists know what they want to be able to do, but they don't know how to get there. When they sit down to practise, they're not sure exactly what they should be doing, from day to day.

That's why I created the 'Know What to Practise' course. I wanted to create a course for guitarists who  wanted a simple, step by step course that would guide them over four weeks of practice.

I've taught thousands of students face-to-face. When I was designing this course, I asked myself, 'what course would I want to give to new students that would be as good (or better) than learning from me face to face.

This is that course.

"One of the best things from your courses has been the excellent way in which you have presented and taught theory and shown how it applies to guitar. Some light bulb moments. Thanks again"

"Just a quick note to say if anyone is considering purchasing (or trying out) Genaaron’s course materials or thinking about how they can progress their guitar playing to the next level, then please give it a go.

I have done so and I particularly like work associated to scales but the chord learning and particularly progressions are well worth looking into."

What's in the Course?

1. Four Week Practice Schedule

The course is designed so that you complete one module every day, for four weeks (28 days). Of course, you can stretch this out or complete it earlier if you'd like to.

Each module either has a new concept for you to learn, or simply something to practise for that day (or both).

Every day of the course, you will know exactly what to learn and what to practise, because there are videos guiding you through every thing that you do.

2. The Fundamentals

In this course, you'll go through the basics (how to play notes, the parts of the guitar, basic technique, how to read guitar tablature etc.).

Perhaps you already know this stuff, but when you're starting out, it's good to go over the basics, so that you know you're on the right track, and you're not making any mistakes that might be holding you back.

3. Guitar Riffs

Playing guitar riffs is one of the most accessible, fun and valuable things to do, when learning guitar. Riffs are short, repeated patterns that aren't too difficult to learn when you're starting out, yet challenge you enough to gain skills from. They help you improve you're rhythm, technique, sense of feel, and are super fun to play.

Throughout the course, we go through some basic riffs, that become part of the practice schedule.

4. Technical Exercises

One of the best ways to develop your technique is to work on technical exercises. They allow you to focus on specific challenges and constantly make improvements, without having to learn complicated material.

You'll be guided through different technical exercises that will help you develop speed and accuracy in both hands. These exercise will form part of the daily practice schedule.

5. Chords

You've probably heard that if you learn three chords, you can play hundreds of songs, right? Well, it's true.

Learning chords can be tricky, but it's an important and exciting thing to learn as soon as you start learning the guitar.

In this course, you'll learn the most important chords and use them to play songs. You'll also develop strategies for improving your chord technique (changing from one chord to another, strumming etc.).

6. Reading Musical Notation

One of the best things that you can do when learning guitar is to learn how to read music notation. Reading tablature is great (and recommended), but when you learn to read music, you learn to understand the language of music.

In this course, you'll learn the fundamentals of music notation so that you can understand how music works and how it's written.

"Thank you for your thoughtful and thorough approach to teaching the guitar. It’s good to have a reliable source for my guitar journey. I played in my youth and have just returned to the guitar as I approach 60.

I believe they’ve helped speed up my learning as I now perform in aged care facilities around Sydney. I consider the books an essential part of how I’m learning."

"Genaaron has become my musical "Sat Nav", giving me direction. He has, obviously, devoted many, many hours putting these books together, a colossal effort! I have found that, for me, this method of tuition is preferable to the "Patreon" sites,(too much talking and expensive!!!)

I'm noticeably improving week by week and just loving it."
